Take me back to where it started, to the house out by the water, where you kissed me by the fire with the seasons turning hotter. And I wrote you that song that I played while you were sleeping, but I did not give a thought to all the secrets I was keeping. I just played my guitar and with your heart like it was fire and ended up with these burns on my face and my hands. As I get older I will start to find my center, and I'll understand myself a little bit more clearly. These brittle feelings, they get stronger in the winter. I love you dearly but my heart has turned to sand. So while I may seem self-assured, I can assure you that I fake it, and I don't think I can see you any other way but naked. So I'll trade in my ambitions for a house outside the city, and I won't accept your comfort and I won't expect your pity. I'll just work until I die or I will die when I'm done working, but I will die with a smile. Thank you God, I will die.
